A warehouse accident in Padborg, southern Denmark, has left a local stream discoloured and smelling sour after up to 2,000 pallets of beer and soft drinks were involved in an incident at a storage facility. Royal Unibrew was among the producers affected, with product from the spill making its way into Smedeby Bæk, a small watercourse in the area.
Aabenraa Kommune registered both the acidic odour and a visible residue coating the stream, prompting an environmental response. The scale of the incident, pallets running into the thousands, points to a significant logistics or structural failure at the site rather than a minor handling mishap.
Royal Unibrew has not yet detailed its exposure in terms of lost stock or liability, but with volumes that large in play, the write-off and potential remediation costs will be worth watching. The company is one of the Nordic region’s largest beverage groups, with brands spanning beer, cider, and soft drinks distributed across multiple markets.
